worship...

i love to worship. my favourite time is when i am either playing my guitar or listening to a song, and just worshiping with all of my heart. its something that i long for more than anything.

i have been reading some of psalms lately, and i am seeing worship differently than i ever have before. i first came across some music by shane and shane that are all written from the psalms, and then at church on sunday, jim shared a song that he had written with Psalm 13. through all of this, i am realizing how much we need to be more like david. he praised God no matter what. he was always thankful. and he worshiped with everything he had, not caring who saw or what they thought because it was for God and God alone! because of his attitude of worship, he had relationship with God that was more unique than any other. he understood the awesomeness of his Father.

Over the last while, God has been revealing to me the true meaning of worship. at first it was just musically. i wanted to sing and dance all over the place, but then it took a deeper meaning. i started to see the need to live a life of worship - on a daily basis - constantly worshipping Jesus, not just through prayer and praise, but through my words and actions; by living a life that is worthy and pleasing to God.

true worship is always giving God His rightful place. its giving Him the honour and respect He deserves over anything.

But it has grown even more than that still...i have had revelation of the true importance of worship. its purpose, place and reality. i fully believe that when we go to God in the true worship, He uses that time to reveal more of Himself, to change our heart, and draw us closer to Him. Worship is one thing that brings us to a deeper level of intimacy with God. Its a time of complete reality between us and Him, individually. When we spend time in worship - however we choose - He brings us to a new level of understanding in Him. One of His promises are that He will meet us when we gather to worship Him. but He doesn't just show up, He moves and speaks and works in our hearts to take us from glory to glory!

but coming to God in honest and true worship means we need to take the focus completely off ourselves and see only Him. often things tend to be too self centred in our lives. we focus so much on what God can do for us that we lose sight of the fact that we need to worship Him just because He is who He is. God is GOD! He is sovereign and AWESOME! and He deserves all glory just for that reason!

the cool thing with God is that when we focus on Him and give Him all we have in worship, He doesn't just take it and enjoy it for Himself, He gives back to us...not because He has to, but because He wants to...
so in laying down our lives in true worship, we gain more than we could ever hope or imagine... true relationship with Him.

Psalm 20:14

may the words of mouth
and the meditations of my heart
be pleasing unto You, pleasing to You
may the words of my mouth
and the meditations of my heart
be pleasing to You, my God

You're my Rock and my Redeemer
You're the reason that i sing
i desire to be a blessing in Your eyes
every hour and every moment
Lord I want to be Your servant
i desire to be a blessing
in Your eyes, in Your eyes
